Who are the MetroBears?

MetroBears NY (MBNY), founded in 1995, is New York City's premiere bear club, the social hub for a growing community of bears, cubs and their admirers. With over 400 members, we are proud to be the largest and oldest bear club in the tri-state metropolitan area.

Not only are the events we put together a lot of fun, but they're also for a good cause. Each year, through our Community Chest Program, MBNY raises thousands of dollars for charity. Beneficiaries of our program include: Sylvia's Place-Queer Youth Homeless Shelter, The LGBT Community Center, Teens Prepared for Life, PFLAG and Aid for AIDS.

We know all to well that the terms cub, bear and admirer can mean many things to many people, but whatever your definition, young or old, husky or slim, single or partnered, live in the city or out-of-state, we welcome you!

What are the Benefits of Membership?

Your membership includes a personal profile page on our website, our quarterly newsletter the Metropolitan Bear, and enrollment in our Membership Rewards Program, entitling you to discounts on admission to club events. You'll also have access to the members-only areas of our website and a subscription to our popular online forum - MB Chat.

What do MetroBears do together?

The diversity of our members makes MBNY unique. Whether your interests are intellectual, social, or sexual, we've got something for everyone. As a member, you'll join some of the friendliest and woofiest cubs and bears at our events, both in and out-of-state, and have the time of your life. Our regularly scheduled events include: Weekly Friday Bar Nights at the Dugout, movie nights, restaurant outings, bowling, Bears at the Beach (naked beach invasions at Sandy Hook), Bear Boogie Nights (dances), our Holiday Party, annual Anniversary Celebration, Mr. MetroBear/Mr. MetroCub Contest and the Gay Pride Boat Cruise.

You'll also find us at events sponsored by other organizations, such as: The NYC Heritage of Pride Parade, Brooklyn and Queens Pride, The GLBT Expo, Santa Saturday in New Hope PA, Folsom Street East, NYC Gay Men's Chorus concerts, GMSMA's annual Leather Pride Night, ICNY's A Night of 1000 Gowns, Bear Trek in Danbury CT, the Bear Café, Bears On Liberty Weekend in Philadelphia PA, even IBR in San Francisco, just to name few.

How To Join?

It's easy! Simply click on the JOIN button above and you can join either online or by downloading a membership application to fill out and return to us! The current annual membership fee is $20.00 per individual or $30.00 for couples residing at the same address. You can either pay via Paypal or mail a check or money order made out to "MetroBears New York" to our mailing address.
